A high salary. Free travel. Quick processing. Guaranteed employment. For many job seekers, especially those dreaming of working abroad, these promises can feel like a life changing opportunity. Unfortunately, for thousands of victims every year, these offers turn into financial loss, exploitation, and abuse. Illegal recruitment is not just fraud. It can lead to forced labor and human trafficking.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀 𝗜𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁?
Illegal recruitment happens when individuals or agencies recruit workers without proper government authorization. It can also occur when licensed recruiters commit fraudulent practices such as charging excessive fees or misrepresenting job details.

In many countries, overseas employment is regulated to protect workers. For example, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, now part of the Department of Migrant Workers, monitors and licenses recruitment agencies to help ensure worker safety. When recruiters operate outside these legal systems, workers lose protection.

They use emotional persuasion, fake testimonials, and even forged documents to appear legitimate. Their goal is to collect fees and disappear or send workers into exploitative conditions.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳
✔ Verify the recruitment agency through your country’s official labor department
✔ Confirm the job order is approved by government authorities
✔ Never pay placement fees without official receipts
✔ Carefully read and understand your contract before signing
✔ Inform your family about your employer, job location, and recruiter
✔ Trust your instincts. If it feels suspicious, it probably is
